Select Coaching Development Pathway

At Northern Soccer Club, we believe that elite player development starts with elite coaching development.

Nationally, women represent only about 26% of youth sports head coaches, and we are committed to closing that gap in our competitive Select program.

To build a stronger, more diverse coaching staff, we are investing directly in the women who lead our players.

How the Initiative Works

We are offering a select number of fully-funded U.S. Soccer Grassroots Licensing opportunities for female coaches joining our competitive pathway.

  • The Club Investment: Northern will cover 100% of your U.S. Soccer Grassroots License fee, provided upon successful completion of the course.

  • The Coach Commitment: In return, coaches commit to a one-year coaching term with Northern Soccer Club (as a head coach or assistant in our Select program).

  • Limited Availability: Because this is a targeted professional development program designed to provide hands-on mentorship, cohort spaces are strictly limited.

Why This Matters

Research from the Women’s Sports Foundation highlights that visible female mentors and coaches are vital for player retention, building athlete confidence, and creating a safe, highly supportive team culture. By removing the financial barrier to coaching education, we want to make it easier for passionate leaders to step onto the select sideline.

Who Is This For?

  • Current Northern Development League coaches looking to take the next step into competitive coaching.

  • Female players age 16+, soccer moms or community leaders looking to transition into formal coaching.

  • Anyone passionate about player development, empowering girls and looking for a club that invests heavily in its staff and kids.
